Pre prosthetic surgery involves the establishment of the conditions necessary for successful prosthetic rehabilitation.

Sometimes is necessary to carry out a minor surgery before making a partial or total prosthesis. The prosthesis relies on bone ridges and soft tissues that surround them, thus it is very important to correct their irregularities for comfort and stability offuture dentures. There are numerousinterventions performed for that purpose and these are just some of the most common

  • Alveoloplastic (surgical formation of irregularities on the edentulous ridge, which can cause pain by the prosthesispressure)
  • Upgrade of the atrophic alveolar ridge (due to extreme bone atrophy, the implantation of artificial biocompatible material or autologous transplant is performed, as the bone is taken from elsewhere in the mouth, so that dentures would have sufficient support for the base unit)
  • Removal of hypertrophic soft tissue (hyperplasia, resp. enlargement of the soft tissue usually occurs wearing old and uncomfortable dentures, and it has to be removed before creating new ones)
  • Vestibuloplasty (deepening of fornix, the lobby of the oral cavity, to provide enough prosthesisdocking)
